スラングの由来、語源、成り立ち

諸説あります。一つの説としては、船乗りたちが船の上で風邪や病気にかかった際、船が荒れた天気の中で気分がすぐれなくなることから「under the weather」という表現が生まれたとされています。別の説としては、船の上で病気にかかった人が船の下の倉庫に隠れて休んでいたことから「under the weather deck」という表現が生まれ、後に「under the weather」に短縮されたという説もあります。
